Ever since I can remember I have been dancing, and my parents have plenty of video evidence to prove it—living room performances, probably the earliest, to MC Hammer’s “Too Legit to Quit,” at age three. Growing up, my evenings and weekends were spent in dance classes and summer intensives. Dance remained a strong passion until I needed unexpected bone graft surgery at age 19. After recovering and laying low for six months, I began a search for a rehabilitation program. My interest in functional fitness as an effective form of rehab led me to personal training with John and Mel at the “Globo Gym” where they worked at the time. We always laugh together when we reminisce about our first consultation—I was adamant that cable-machine routines would be my saving grace. Needless to say, CrossFit became my obsession as I learned what it meant to be truly fit. Who knew that lifting a heavy barbell could bring me such happiness!

When I was presented with the opportunity to be a part of creating and developing CrossFit MPH in the spring of 2009, I jumped at it. My goal, as a coach, is to help our athletes experience the feeling of empowerment that comes with working to be in the best shape of each of their lives. Dance has left me with an appreciation for virtuous movement and technique—qualities that I apply in CrossFit, and that I aim to impart when teaching. I derive great satisfaction in coaching our athletes to better fitness and in seeing them progress, whether it’s a first pull-up, a personal record or beating a previous workout time. Add to that the enjoyment of pre- and post-workout laughing and catching up with each other, and you have a winning formula! I am thrilled to be a part of this community.
