Since videos have been be getting a good response lately, here is an MPH (that’s us: MetamorPHitness) favorite. James “OPT” Fitzgerald, winner of the inaugural CrossFit Games in 2007, has tremendous capacity. Here, he completes the benchmark workout “Helen.” Don’t forget to check your speakers, but if you have a chance to turn them way up, we recommend it.

I have seen this video at least a half dozen times and each time I come away more impressed. His intensity, effort and capacity are absurd – no rest, no management of the workout, just kickin ass. He makes Helen look so matter of fact – run fast, knock out your kb swings, bang out some pullups, and you’re done. In many ways I guess it really is that simple.
I like that he does whatever the coach tells him to do. He does it without hesitation. I’m curious, are there any more workouts named after women? Jeff W.
Great pick-up, Jeff. That’s arguably the most important part of the video.
And yes, there are 20 benchmark workouts–“the Girls”–named in the same way hurricanes are: Angie, Barbara, Chelsea, Cindy, Diane, Elizabeth, Fran, Grace, Helen, Isabel, Jackie, Karen, Linda, Mary, Nancy, Annie, Eva, Kelley, Lynne and Nicole. Each requires different capacities. We’ll meet them all at some point.
