Congratulations are immediately in order for David “702” O. A seven-minute effort over 2000 meters is one of our gold standards for fitness and capacity in general–maybe, roughly equivalent to a three-minute “Fran,” though entirely different in its demands. It is truly an elite time, and, incidentally, 43 seconds faster than the last time he completed this workout.
He was one-half of one stroke shy of 6:59, and will no doubt achieve that benchmark when this workout comes up again.
Thanks. I see on my workout log that I have a new name “David ‘702’ O”…nice way to rub it in…I mean motivate me. Frankly, I think the reason I didn’t hit the 6:59 mark was because you neglected to tell me “don’t ‘F’ this up” before I started. I was completely off my game as a result.
But seriously, thanks for pushing me. I had no Idea how I was doing until the last 500 meters when when you mentioned I was in the 6 min neighborhood. I could not have reached this mark without your coaching. Many thanks. Let’s do better next time…I am counting on you!
I witnessed David “1:45.5 500m split for 2000m” O. and Neal and they were both heroic efforts – as was Joe’s, obviously. Neither David nor Neal watched the monitor – which I think would be grueling during the last 1,000 meters. Just for fun, and motivation, here are the world records (I need to shave off 1:49) by age, sex and weight:
Well according to the website Ted posted, I only have 1:05 to trim off my time to have the record for my age and weight…he says only…that is a lot of time.

My stopping one row short has unrelentless nagged at me all day today. I totally “put the bar down.”
