No Excuses
Lately I’ve noticed that I like to make excuses- little reasons for not truly giving it my all in the wod.
“I’m getting old”. This is complete bullshit as I am NOT old (I’m 36). Jeff Tincher is 40 for fuck’s sake and is still crushing the wod.
Another one is, “I have lousy genetics”. This too is bullshit- we are NOT slaves to our genes. If the rest of my family did crossfit and ate clean, they would look like a completely different SPECIES.
“I used to be wicked fat” -So what? I’m not now and I never will be again, so who gives a shit? Look forward not backward.
My decision: To never verbalize any of these excuses again. I have fallen back on them to give myself a break all too often, telling myself that I’m doing good enough. Well fuck that.
Good enough isn’t.
Keep Squattin’!
Steve D.
ps. yesterday for Ivy I said I had “oily hands” when I wanted chalk. WTF are oily hands?
pps. does anybody else want to have an “excuse purge” with me?
Steve,
Here’s a few to add and also delete from my ritual:
1. My legs are too long to squat or deadlift heavy.
2. I did not eat properly before working out so my energy level is low. This will never be an excuse again.
3. My Genitalia are too large to do high rep pull-ups…too much weight pulling me back down.
4. I can not run fast as I have little hair and a large forehead: wind resistance.
5. I wear Lulu Lemon clothes thereby lowering my testosterone level.
StuLu
Stulu, you are funny, dude!
Great work today, folks! We saw a few people get inverted for the first time—Mayra, Erin, Koji, Mike D., Jason and Ravi. Austin killed the handstand pushups, as did Jeff W. with the ring dips.
Steve, my most-used excuse is: “I’m not rested, so I will just finish the workout.” Every time I catch myself saying this, I focus on immediately reorienting my train of thought into something more productive.

thanks for the reminder to stay focused today Mel- I really needed it! i almost lost my shit when i had to demote myself back to the 25# for the hspu. getting pissed made the swings easy as pie tho!
Steve. Great thread to start. Here are some of mine:
1). I was a dancer (really watever) so my squats suck
2). I’ve never done them before so i’m not going to be good at it.
3). I can never be as strong as (insert name) so that means this weight is too heavy.
Turn off the self serving mind games.
Stu. U are unique and crack me up. Happy weekend all.

Not to get into semantics: But I did 6x pull-ups and 6x Ring Dip negatives. I must be a moron. Or a glutton for self-induced unnecessary punishment when I could have been doing 3’s! Nevertheless, I am glad, as less is never better. Awesome day everyone…can’t wait for some ass-whooping fun on Monday.
And Mel, Awesome job today in the box. You were great at keeping these larger groups together as a team. And never letting any of us out of your sight…
Stu,
Thanks for the compliment! Yes, you are correct that you did 6 pull-ups and 6 dips per round, and that is how we annotate the scores. The “x” in our annotation system is a multiplier. The original workout included “2 muscle-ups.” Since the substitute for a muscle-up is “3 pull-ups, 3 dips,” you completed 3x the pull-up and dip numbers.
I know it is confusing, but “3x pull-up, 3x dip” DOES mean that you did 6 pull-ups and 6 dips per round.
“3x pull-up” x 2 muscle-up = 6 pull-up
“3x dip” x 2 muscle-up = 6 dip
Melody
my workout for today:
