Team,
A few things for today and the weekend:
1. Starting at 1p this afternoon, we are having some work done in the space. Our hot water heater will be replaced, and nine inches of fiberglass insulation will be put into our ceiling (only the former was at our request). This work is expected to take eight hours to complete, and we will be staying late to ensure that the space is as clean as possible for tomorrow. However, construction rarely goes as planned, and our drop-down ceiling will first be completely removed to install the insulation, and then put back. Stay tuned to the site for any updates regarding tomorrow’s classes.
2. The weather. Allegedly, some epic storm is coming our way. So be it. Melody and I have never missed a day because of weather. In the past, our policy has been: if we can make it to the gym, you can make it. We realize that this is untenable in our new digs. We trust that you will use your best judgment in traveling to us, but we do not want you to use it as an excuse to miss a workout. Stay tuned to the site for any updates regarding tomorrow’s classes, but we plan on being here.
3. If you have any spare, fairly robust backpacks lying around the house, we would be happy to take them off your hands, rather than your tossing them out. We can use them for any number of activities, but weighted pull-ups are much better with them than trying to keep a dumbbell between your knees.
4. Another successful week is done—PRs abound. You are getting better every workout, and it is a pleasure to be part of your success. We have four more workouts before programmed rest over the holiday. Be ready to work hard through Wednesday and until your well-deserved rest.

Another important announcement. This year there is going to be a preliminary round before the Regional competition for the Crossfit games (called “sectionals”). Lucky for us, our sectional competition will be taking place in NoVa, so we won’t have to travel very far (last year the Regionals were down in Virginia Beach). The date is March 27-28.
Registration looks like it will happen this coming Monday. It looks like you have to sign up *even if you want to just be a spectator* I haven’t been yet, but everybody I know who’s been says it’s a great time. So I’m throwing the proverbial hat into the ring this year to see what the fuss is all about. It should be a blast, and it would great to get a lot of people out to participate or just watch. Anyway, just wanted to give everybody the heads up. Here is the link to the games website:

Thanks Rob,
We are going to write on the sectionals this weekend. I’m glad you want to give this a go. I know Steve is in…and I’ve heard rumblings that Ivy is interested, too.
In the meantime, gang, get to the Games website and read all about it…
John
I am interested, but insecure. Today was a pretty good confidence booster in the strict pull up progress department, though. I would be down for a team from MPH. Either way, I’d like to snag a spot to go watch the sectionals and cheer on any MPH athletes who sign up.
I’m up to compete. I may get my butt kicked, but 2 1/2 months seems adequate to trim down weight wise and get some more pullups under my belt. I’m assuming everyone signs up individually, correct me if I’m wrong.
I thought it might be fun to put an MPH team together too for the *affiliate cup* but it looks like the team qualifier events take place only at regionals.
Thanks Meg,
I forgot about you…I’ve heard rumblings as well. It also looks like Dave R. (from VIDA) is also in.
We’ll talk about an affiliate team after sectionals, because as you said, that competition is in May.
John
we’ll see 🙂

I’m in (for support)!

I think I still have some work to get to the competition level but I will happily come and cheer you all on.
me too!

Hey all,
Just wanted to say what a pleasure it was to workout at y’alls box today. I’m a HUGE fan and I’ll definitely be in touch. You guys definitely have it right.

23:19 (55lb TGU…all else as Rx’d)
Hey, I can’t say that I am up to competition level yet, but I think it would be fun to try and a nice goal to shoot for. If I don’t compete, I will definitely be there to support anyone who does.
Dave O.
I’m interested too, once I can do these things as prescribed…

Oh! My first post. I just wanted to announce that my bright white converse are in. I believe I have officially drunk the kool-aid!
Have a great weekend! I’m resting tomorrow/playing in the snow.
This was a tough workout, but it caused me to do some reflecting. So I thought I’d share. When I saw this workout last night, I thought “Ugh.” But, I signed up anyway, for my first-ever fourth WOD in a row, because Mel told me to (talk about drinking the kool-aid!).
This morning, when they told me to swing with 55 lbs, then told me to get the 35 lb dumbbell for the TGU, I thought “No way.” And all this on my first day using the blue band for pull-ups? Yikes. During the round of 10, about halfway through the TGUs, I really thought I wasn’t going to make it. I kept dropping the db, and stumbling when I tried to stand, and I just wasn’t sure how, or if, I was going to get through it.
But…the coaches’ confidence never seemed to waiver like mine did. They encouraged me, and even told me to speed up! Never was there talk of lowering the weight, or going back to green, or (gasp!) taking a DNF. And so I kept going, and eventually I finished, in a time I can be proud of.
That’s why I Crossfit, and that’s why I Crossfit at MPH. Never in a thousand lifetimes would I have pushed myself the way the coaches, and my fellow athletes, pushed me today. I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating- finding out that I can make myself do one more tgu, 20 tgus after I thought I was done, is unbelievably satisfying.
Tamra,
Great story! I can really relate to this one. I too wondered at one point if I would make it through the TGUs, but I was determined to get it done no matter how long it took.
I was grateful that the 7a crew stayed to cheer me on and that the coaches let me finish. Awesome way to start the day!!!
Thanks for sharing your story.
Dave O.
so, gym back together? Need help in the morning?
