***Important Announcement***
This Saturday, January 9, we will host two events open to all MPH athletes:

  1. At 8a, we will kick off the New Year and begin the hour by briefing those MPH athletes and spectators attending the Sectional qualifier in March. During this hour, we will also outline our goals and priorities as a facility for 2010. This discussion will include topics such as scheduling, programming, nutrition and special events, and is applicable to every athlete that trains here. This event has been loaded in MINDBODY, so please register as normal if you plan on attending.
  2. Following the MPH New Year’s Kickoff, we will conduct one workout from 9-11a. This class is loaded in MINDBODY, and it is uncapped and open to every MPH athlete that wants to participate. However, so that we may plan appropriately and provide a comfortable and efficient experience for everyone, registration for this extended session will close at 5p today. We have completely cleared the classes that were previously loaded for that day, so if you were registered for the 9a or 10a prior to today, you will need to re-register. The workout will be the CrossFit Total, and we cannot think of a better environment to conduct this in than the biggest class we have ever held. We look forward to seeing you at both events!

It always seems like the best workouts happen when I am traveling. Or, could it be that I hate to feel left out of anything? My Crossfit MPH alarm went off while I was working here (the one that alerts me to the new workout being posted) and my heart sank….I could not resist to see what you will be doing.

I guess what I am saying is that I miss you all. And that I am sitting here wondering how I could possibly substitute a muscle-up attempt (let alone 30) in a hotel gym without getting arrested. I so wish I was ripping my tricep skin to shreds with all of you on the rings instead of flexing in front of the mirror as I massage the now supple skin of my upper arms.

I did yesterday’s workout with dumbbells. On carpeting. It was beige – with a floral pattern.

      Stu,

Funny you mention you have an alarm set to remind you when the new WOD is posted. I, too, have an alarm set except it goes off whenever you comment on the WOD. I always get a kick out of your posts – so long as they don’t discuss the rationale behind your affinity for Lulemon threads.

      You’ll surely be missed tomorrow,

      A

Needless to say, this picture is hilarious on many levels. I especially like how Sid refuses to expose her hands to the elements.

Not wanting to leave anyone, especially StuLu, out I wanted to share that some of us are headed to brunch after the Crossfit Total on Saturday. It would be in the area, we were thinking Annie’s might have enough room for a large group of sweaty hungry athletes.

It has been a while since I posted something to this blog about ass taping so, as President of the Tender Ass Club, I feel compelled to start the year off with a note on this subject.

It has come to my attention, and I was reminded on Wednesday when we did “Tabata Something Else”, that there may be a few closet ass tapers out there.

Now some of you may be wondering what I am talking about so, I will attempt to describe the art and need for taping of the ass. First, the reason one would tape their ass is the same reason one tapes their hands prior to attempting multiple pull ups. It is to protect an area of your body by putting something between the surface of your skin and the bar for pull ups or in the case of ass taping the floor when completing multiple sit ups.

If you are like me and have a tender ass that gets seriously chaffed when doing sit ups and you have felt the after burn (you know what I am talking about) in the shower for days after the sit up work out, then you might be a candidate for ass taping.

I know some of you laughed at me when I first came out about this pain saving technique, but it really works. Since then, I suspect there are more than a few of you who have secretly tried this technique, but were afraid to share the results.

Well I say, now I challenge those of you who are closet ass tapers to come clean and post a testimonial on this blog of the results/benefits of ass taping. Don’t be shy, you know who you are… Wouldn’t you want someone else to share some unique technique that worked for them? Then why not share what is working for you?

OK, there I have said it. In my next post I will attempt to illustrate the ass taping technique.

BTW, this message was in no way directed at Jessica…I am just saying.

      haha, dave this is hilarious…

i used to make fun of you guys for whining about this during sit ups, however i am recently learning the downside of paleo-induced weight loss… reduced padding to protect me from this unfortunate side effect! so, while i have not yet joined your ranks of ass taping, it may be soon.

I found that runners’ glide also works. This is the waxy stuff that comes in the form of a deoderant stick.

As I was reading this, I was thinking, Dave…please no, don’t, please…but then…there it is…my name. Okay, so I’ve been outed. I, however, am not offering a free lesson in the art of the anti-chafe taping. Dave is the president, and I, well I am just taking notes.

On a more sunny note, I had the pleasure of hearing Steve play last night at the Kennedy Center. Beautiful performance, Steve, I particularly enjoyed The Planets.

Welcome to the club 🙂 No, you cannot have your runners’ glide back.

I said it was not directed at you, but since you are now out there, inquiring minds want to know…did it work?

        nice!
thanks Jess! had i known you were there i would have played louder.
(I was all taped up for that concert, btw.)
interestingly, there was another crossfitting tuba player at that concert. there are only 6 of us in the entire world.

I still have a horrible scar for the last WOD that had Sit ups months ago. But, as Jen said, excess of fat protection gained in holidays helps for the Tabata Something Else session. Although I will try to loss it soon, so, I need to try the taping, or the diapers next time.

YES! Hilarious Dave, I too suffer from ass burn during high rep sit-ups. I never considered ass taping as an option. If I knew the proper technique maybe I would try it…in the meantime I’m definitely going to try the body glide and possibly even some padded bike shorts- you think the padded part extends to the upper sacral area?
