***Important Announcement***
MPH will be closed on Monday, February 15 for the President’s Day holiday. We will resume a normal class schedule on Tuesday, February 16.
Congratulations to the 19 women and 23 men who participated in yesterday’s MPH Valentine’s Day Massacres.
While February 14 is typically a day of loss and suffering for guys everywhere, our boys persevered—at least over the grueling format of three maximum efforts in three-and-a-half hours. Official results can be found here.
Despite the “battle of the sexes,” the energy and spirit in the room was far from competitive. Like most days at MPH, your support for one another carried the day. Everyone cheered each other on regardless of gender, and all put forth memorable efforts. The most telling moments, if you were fortunate enough to stop and really hear them, were the thunders of cheering and clapping following each heat. It is difficult to describe, but you could read the sincerity in those approbations, and the genuine appreciation for each others’ presence and hard work. That sound—that is why we love this job, and why we are grateful to have a community of such wonderful people.
Thank you Teal B. and John S. for your coaching and assistance, again! We cannot wait for you two to play in the next event.
Finally, congratulations Jen and Sean M., for winning this year’s Best Couple Award. For beating Sean head-to-head by 10 repetitions, Jenny also wins the companion Shot Through the Heart Award. Sure, we just made all of that up, but it’s real now, so start planning for next year. Yesterday, they were a powerhouse of pink: matching outfits (we have plenty of pictures) and a healthy (we hope) dose of trash-talking. And if you are like us, you just cannot decide who wears pink better (Jen, definitely Jen).
Thank you everyone for another unforgettable day in our little corner of the city. You guys and gals gave love a bad name.

for time:
row -or- run 10k
I just wanted to say I had a great time yesterday. It was the most memorable Valentine’s Day I have had in a long time. Joe, I love the 300 references and Mayra I also enjoyed your classic Simpsons reference. Thanks everyone. JW
No one was more surprised by the guys’ performance than me. 🙂
But it was a great time. And you can tell by the chart that a lot of work went into putting this on. So thank you!
True dat re: the chart!
“Shot Through the Heart Award” — haha, love it! thx 🙂
Gang,
Thanks again for a great day yesterday.
Beginning tonight, we will post the next day’s workout at 9p. I’m not sure if this will result in more sleep or less than what you got with the 10p post, but hey, we’re trying.
John
Hey guys!
I’m planning on running today at 4:30pm. If anyone would like to join me, give me a call! 202 390 4720
I’m going to start on GW campus at 23rd and G ST NW and run over the memorial bridge, through VA, over the Key bridge into Georgetown and back to GW. It’s anywhere from 4-6 miles (10k=6.2mi), I can googlemap it to get the exact mileage. I checked the weather and this IS when its supposed to start snowing but it should be light flurries and we should be back before it begins to accumulate (I think this time its only supposed to accumulate 1-2 inches). I’m comfortable running at anywhere from a 7:30-12min/mile pace, so let me know if you want in!
Hey Christy…have fun, I am resting today after the beat down yesterday. Remember: You can’t run from yourself!
Also, if you think of it please e-mail me some pictures from the Undie Race: stuart@theriaults.com. (Be sure to limit each email to no more then three jpegs or our server firewall will otherwise block it). I am especially looking forward to having one of the pictures of Steve made into a poster so that I can market them on the internet. I am gonna make a killing on the Japanese market with these.

Man I wish I lived in DC, I would so be there w/ you Christy, esp w/ your willingness to go at a slower pace. Have fun guys. I am popping aleves today so that I am ready for tomorrows workout.
Gave the suggested WOD a go on a treadmill today, but I was really wiped out. I did 1.5 miles, some push ups, and a quick 5 minute AMRAP of 20 lunges (45lb bar bell) and 20 KB swings (40lbs). 2.5 rounds in the 5 minutes. I think I am coming down with a cold, but plan on being at the workout tomorrow.
Mel I wanted to thank you for your Gym-less work out. Used two of them while on the road last week. Great to have all the resources you give us.
See you all Wed 6am!!!
xoxo
