    DaveO,

I know this look. And I am pretty certain that this photo was taken last Wednesday night at the moment you had just found out that Montreal had eliminated The Caps.

    All,

I am stuck in Palm Springs for another 5 days. Further, I have now completely lost my lips, somehow dropping them in a strip-mall in Rancho Mirage (I think it was on Bob Hope Blvd…might have been Gene Autry Way).

Desert Crossfit has now officially adopted me; the ladies have been so kind and have promised me a pectoral lift “on the house” if I stay forever. I did “McGhee” with them today…a hero WOD. It is an AMRAP in 30 minutes of 5-275 DL, 13-Push-ups and 9-24″ box jumps. Killer. This time, as I did the push-ups, ALL of the girls yelled for me to “go down for them.” I am learning to love this place. Thank god Hana is flying in tomorrow for a few days of visitation as I just can’t “go down” for these strange women anymore. I really do need to find my lips though.

    Meg, Mel, Dave R, Christy,

I am sorry that I won’t be in Ohio this weekend to distract the other athletes with my forehead shine. Not that you really need anything in the way of help or encouragement. You got this shit. But I will say this: that you are champions to me every day and every moment. And, that greatness IS for everyone..it’s just that not everyone chooses to embrace it (Sorry John).

So, all that’s really needed is “The Hunger.” Thus, I hereby request that Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like The Wolf” stand as the official MPH song for the Regional Qualifiers. Can I do that? If approved I will watch the scores from afar and sing into the desert wind the following long distance request:

“Strut on a line it’s discord and rhyme
I howl and I whine I’m after you
Mouth is alive all running inside
And I’m hungry like the wolf”

(It may be garbled though given my lipless lisp.)

    StuLu-The Baked.

Does anyone know if the following is legit? I just received this message from my old yoga studio (yes, I like yoga; no, I don’t wear Lululemon):

“We just learned that the DC Council may impose a 6-8% sales tax on yoga classes and gym memberships. This Friday, May 7th (tomorrow!), they’ll consider the new tax. And, they’ll vote to approve or reject it soon thereafter.”

I did the 5-minute internet search and couldn’t find anything supporting this assertion, which I would think important for the MPH community as well. If concerned, Flow has a link to an automatic email to send to DC Council reps here: http://www.flowyogacenter.com/campaign/donttaxyoga

I changed the text to include yoga and gyms.

I can’t find the whole bill on the DC Council’s website, but the bill referenced in campaign letter you linked to, Derek, is B18-0731. The Introduction and TOC do not appear to have a provision under which this would fall. It might be worth a call to Chairman Gray’s office to verify if the text of the bill contains a provision that is not obvious from the introduction. I think such a tax would have a pretty big impact on small studios like MPH.

    Thanks for the heads up!

okay folks, B18-731 is the mayor’s proposed budget, the council hearing tomorrow is on the mayor’s proposals. the gym/yoga tax is being proposed by a council member and they are unveiling their proposals officially next week. this tax has a long way to go before it is enacted.

Some great photos today at my temporary home of Desert Crossfit where two new Crossfit Seniors are doing “McGhee.” Awesome stuff! Here is the link: http://desertcrossfit.typepad.com/desert_crossfit/

Great stuff, StuLu. I did that workout two weeks ago—30 minutes of grind. It was also the day before the CrossFit Endurance cert, which just added to the various hazards to my well-being that weekend.

We miss you out here. Get home safe and soon.

      John
