Thank you Josh O., for helping with yesterday’s projects, and for the quote of the day: “Greater precision than this is not required.”

There have been one or two of these that have come out. Cordain has a very persuasive refutation of them, I recall Sisson does as well. Even taken at face value, one or two spots does not indicate a trend, nor would it have any effect on genetics. At best it moves the clock back another 20k years, but when considering the entire span is 2.5 million years, it still doesn’t matter.
I just think it’s cool. Either way, it wouldn’t have much bearing on my opinion of Paleo, but that’s because, IMO, the entire genetics argument is dumb (it takes surprisingly few generations for genetic adaptations/mutations to take hold and spread to entire populations). There are plenty of much better justifications for Paleo.
Sigh… I’m about to get myself in a world of trouble. Starting arguments with lawyers is a terrible idea.
I agree that it’s cool that some stone age people figured out how to fire up some tubers! It probably improved their daily life a fair bit. In their honor, I’ll have some yams for breakfast tomorrow.
Enjoy! (Phew…)
I agree with Rob, roots and tubers are a lot different than cultivated grains like wheat, rye, and barley.
Mike – strong work on today’s WOD. As soon as you get the double unders down you’ll be even more filthy.

thanks dave. but i’d trade (a little bit of my filthiness for half your composure…
at about the 12th burpee the voices in my head starting to tell me to stop what I was doing and give up, but thankfully the encouragement from people like Mel, Erez, Ivy and John drowned them out. thanks, again, for pushing me to do more than I would have been able to do on my own.
Speaking of pushing yourself through the pain:

Notes for today:
-back extension substitution: 50x superman
I stumbled upon these, and I hope you don’t need a subscription to access them:
1. First evidence from randomized experiments that drinking water before meals leads to wait loss:
http://www.economist.com/node/16881791
2. And some experimental evidence (on mice) on the relationship between nocturnal light and weight, which I think fits nicely with the idea that you should try to sleep in a pitch black room – though I am not sure if this latter suggestion is made because of the mechanisms in the article:

Ugh. My first attempt at Filthy Fifty (in my case, a bastardized hotel-gym Filthy Forty), and I DNF’d it. I started dry heaving half way through the burpees at minute 17. I blame the 12 hour jet lag. 🙂 The gym attendant was equally perplexed and intimidated by the intensity.
My attempt (all 40 reps):
Tuck-jump
Swings – 35lb db
Situps
Swings – 35lb db
Lunges
Push press – 20lb db
Superman
Thruster – 20lb db
Burpee
Tuck-jump
