Memorial Day Weekend – May 28 – 30, 2011

***Important Announcement***
MPH will be closed from Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30 for the Memorial Day holiday. We will resume a normal workout schedule on Tuesday, May 31.

This weekend marks the close of our most successful winter and spring seasons yet—introduction of the Running and Barbell Teams, close to 170 training miles individually programmed and five races (planned and) finished for the Running Team, seven weeks of competition and community in March and April for the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games Open, and the whole “little box that could” continuing to grow as athletes and people.

We know that it takes a unique, extraordinary individual to train at MPH—one who is disciplined, friendly and social, supportive, patient, and hard-working. Whether you have been with us for a few weeks or a few years, you make ours the best and most fun group of athletes anywhere. Thank you for all that you give us every day.

This summer, among many events, Christy P. will conquer the CrossFit world, our new t-shirt will be available to all and there will, undoubtedly, be another next-and-best Paleo potluck. Additionally, we have exciting plans for our Running and Barbell teams, including collaboration between the two, and additional skill development within each to prepare for broad requirements on our fitness across many disciplines, events and competitions.

Until then, find a new way to express your fitness this weekend!

Rest—for the next three days.

In honor or our friend Tamra F. (“T”) returning to DC for a short visit, MPHers are taking over the rooftop at El Centro DF for a Happy Hour on June 7 from 6:00 to whenever. Let’s officially kick off the Best MPH Summer Yet! Spread the word far and wide to the whole gym community. El Centro DF is a new restaurant/bar at 1819 14th Street. Here is the website: http://www.richardsandoval.com/elcentrodf/

For those we haven’t met Tamra (T), she is a founding member of MPH, stalwart of the 6:00 a.m. class, and has been in Dubai for six months for work. She is here on vacation, and will surely hit a few WODs with the crew. T was a member of our Crossfit Open team, participating at her home-gym-away-from- home, CF Lifespark in Dubai.

    t-shirt slogan submission:

“because love is stronger than pain”

From an article by Matt Forman in Catalyst Athletic’s Performance Menu Journal this month. A journal I recommend to all of us BTW – great articles and paleo recipes too.
