Routine, process, thought—an athlete’s allies. Think about a hitter as he steps into the batter’s box, sets his feet and digs in, eyes the pitcher, and takes a practice swing. Or, consider a Marine sniper, spotter by his side, who locates his target, adjusts to the wind and range, sights-in, and steadies his rifle by exhaling completely. What’s your system? Where is your mind, and what message do you send as you prepare to move?
Learn to focus your energies. As you approach an apparatus or evolution, concentrate. Check what’s there: foot position, posture, grip and tension. Relax your face. Filter useless noise, silencing doubt and fear. Quiet your mind and commit. Act.
