    Hello MPH. So I was about to turn in tonight when I saw Sid’s FB message hinting that I might wanna check the MPH site. So I did. And it made my day. MPH was such an important part of my time in DC that when people asked what I would – or do – miss about the city, I consistently responded “My gym.” They never understood.

    I’ve been up in NY for just about four months now and have found a box that works for me (Crossfit LIC if you’re wondering). It’s a good box but MPH will also be home. Not only did MPH introduce me to Crossfit but it helped reshape me. I did almost die that first work out – both from exhaustion and embarrassment. It had always been that combination that kept me from challenging myself more fully. But in MPH I found skilled, engaged coaches and a community whose cohesion I’ve not seen replicated. It was what I needed to start a long road to fundamentally enhancing my fitness and my character.

    I miss all of you guys immensely. I keep your voices in mind – especially Mel’s – when I’m focusing on form. It’s the MPH standard I strive for no matter where I work out. I believe other athletes notice when they compliment my form (I was told I had a nice rack once; that was a first).

    And progress continues to be made: My last Crossfit Total score (March 2011) hit 600, up 75lbs from my last attempt about a year or so before. Also – and this is for you Mel – I’ve decided to try incorporating fish into the diet, but only because they are stupider than chickens.

    I leave you guys with that. Miss you guys. I haven’t been back down to DC yet since moving up but I’ll surely stop by for a WOD when I’m there.

    MPHer’s, if you share my fascination with Olympic Weightlifting, you’ll love Frank Rothwell’s youtube channel. It’s filled with hours and hours of olyporn!

    There is also a link in there to his own personal website where you can read about his own weightlifting history. He was in the 1972 Olympics (last year of the press) and he trained in his kitchen where he couldn’t drop his weights. Now how cool is that?
