Hello MPH friends,
You may have asked yourself, “Where the heck is Ivy?” the past few months. Though I probably flatter myself to think you might have thought this, I wanted to give you an update. Since having Graham, I have had to come to the hard realization that, logistically, MPH is not very convenient, and in fact is nearly impossible, for me to get to on weekdays. After a really nice conversation with Mel, I’ve decided to put my membership on hold indefinitely and figure out a way to be an MPH ambassador in the wider fitness community (create a ripple if you will; see e.g. http://library.crossfit.com/free/pdf/CFJ_07_2013_Ripple_Cooper6.pdf). To that end, I’ve joined Gold’s gym so that I can do the MPH WODs near my office. Today was my first attempt at dropping of Graham at daycare, doing a WOD, and getting into the office by 9:00. I have to work out the kinks, though, because I only got in 3 rounds of the 250’s. BUT, on the other hand, I ran into former MPHer Koji Hirota! There are also several trainers there that are CrossFitters and instruct in CF style. Though I will not be doing personal training, I guess I am happy to know that, for a Globo, I’ve found a place that is CF friendly. They have a platform and some old-school (rubber on the outside of metal; aka “real”) bumper plates, wall balls, boxes, rowers, etc. No really good pull up station or rings though. They do have a bizarre rope pull machine, which I thought was kinda cool.
I plan on following the MPH programming and to post my WOD scores here. I want to remain involved in the community as much as possible. Since the fall is goal setting season at MPH, here is mine: to come to MPH for the Open competition WODs as a competitor. I hope to come out and cheer for you all at your various competitions along the way, too. I have to say, I really miss everyone and the friendly, competitive environment of the box.
Take care for now,
Ivy F.
Ivy, you will be greatly missed. Your spirit and enthusiasm are a part of what makes our community so unique. But glad to know that you’ll be out spreading the good word and that we’ll see you from time-to-time. Best of luck with everything.
xoxo
Teal
