BG
If you have ever been in a class with Borja, then you know that one of his favorite mantras when cheering on his fellow athletes is, “You can do it!” We can think of no greater example of what makes Borja’s presence at MPH so important: his unwavering support of everyone around him, even if that support comes in the form of the occasional hilarious zinger.

Borja’s CrossFit journey began in 2006 (10 years ago!) as a personal training client of Mel’s. His accent may have been a little thicker back then, but he was pleasant, he worked hard, and he was always open to new training methodologies (enter: CrossFit). And, he never canceled a session, unless he was traveling to Spain to visit his family (and get a haircut).

When our gym opened at 1469 Church, Borja became a 6am-er, showing up every single day at the break of dawn to leave it all out on the floor. We all know it takes a special dedication to wake up at 6a to workout, but Borja is in a class by himself. He is here every single day, and has been since we opened. One of our favorites: he ran a marathon on a Sunday, and showed up to the 6a class the next day to workout. Borja has also persevered through the aches and pains of a veteran athlete, each time coming back stronger and better than ever.

Not only has Borja made an impression in the gym, but (with the help of the DC Barbecue Outreach, i.e. John P. and Mike F.) he has also opened up his home to our community multiple times each year for his epic pig roasts (and karaoke sessions). He is a generous and hospitable host, and we don’t have the words to thank him for the contributions to our community on this front.

We don’t believe in single moments that define success, we believe that success is defined by what one repeatedly and consistently does. Borja is the ultimate MPH success story. His progress over the past 10 years has been incredible to watch. Thank you for your time, your dedication, and your loyalty. And happy birthday. Now, let’s all suffer together.

XOXO,
MPH
